Yes, for your insurance to be valid you need to have a valid MOT.  

Your insurance will not be valid if you allow your car tax or MOT to expire. The best way to guarantee that your insurance is valid is to make sure that your MOT and tax are always up to date.

To do this, you can:

  • Check the MOT status of your vehicle here. Please make sure that you have your vehicle make and registration to hand as you will need these to check this.
  • Sign up for free text or email reminders that will tell you when your MOT is due.
  • Check if your vehicle is currently taxed. You can do this here.
